BALTIMORE, Md. – Rising junior Michelle Tumolo and former Orange All-American Katie Rowan have been named to the 2011-12 U.S. women's senior national team. The 36-player roster was announced following a three-day tryout this past weekend, which featured more than 80 players. This year's team will lay the foundation for the 2013 squad that will compete in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.
It marks the second consecutive season that Tumolo has earned a spot on the national team. She was an IWLCA All-Northeast Region and All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2011 after leading the team in scoring with 63 points. Tumolo ranked 14th in the nation in assists (33) and 12th in assists per game (1.83). She enters her junior year ranked fifth on Syracuse's all-time list for career assists (70).
Rowan has been a member of the U.S. national squad since 2009 when she helped the team win the World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic. She is the Orange's all-time leader in points (396) and assists (164). She also ranks second in career goals (232). Rowan is Syracuse's only three-time first-team All-American. She earned two BIG EAST Player of the Year awards and was a four-time member of the All-BIG EAST First Team.
The 2011-12 U.S. senior national team will participate in Stars & Stripes Weekend in October and Champion Challenge in January and will conduct numerous clinics throughout the year.
