After being named to the 2010-11 BIG EAST All-Academic Team earlier this week, Pat Dupont and Sean Keefe earned yet another academic accolade on Wednesday. Both SU student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's All-Academic Track and Field Team. The USTFCCCA will announce the women's All-Academic squad on Thursday while All-Academic Team honorees will be named next week.
After being named to the 2010-11 BIG EAST All-Academic Team earlier this week, Pat Dupont and Sean Keefe earned yet another academic accolade on Wednesday. Both SU student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's All-Academic Track and Field Team. The USTFCCCA will announce the women's All-Academic squad on Thursday while All-Academic Team honorees will be named next week.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 in addition to athletic requirements. For the indoor season, the student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked either in the national top 96 in an individual event or in the national top 48 in a relay event. Outdoor requirements include participating in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
Dupont, a music composition major, earns his second straight track and field All-Academic nod and was also named to the 2010 Cross Country All-Academic squad in 2010 after SU defended its men's BIG EAST and NCAA Northeast Regional titles. During the track and field season, Dupont finished seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminary's with a time of 9:01.88. The Fairport, N.Y. native also earned All-BIG EAST honors after finishing third in the same event at the conference championships.
Keefe, who enters his junior season during 2011-12, garners his first career USTFCCCA Academic honor. A magazine and geography major, Keefe ran in the 10,000 meter event at the NCAA East Preliminary's, finishing 43rd (31:24.62). The Churchville, Pa. native has also been named to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all of his four semesters with the Orange.
