The win gave head coach Jim Boeheim his 877th victory and moved him into sole possession of fourth place on the career coaching wins list. Boeheim passed Adolph Rupp on the list, and is now two wins shy of tying Dean Smith for third with 879 wins.

Syracuse weathered the early storm which saw Cincinnati hit 4-of-5 from behind the arch in the first four minutes of the game. The Orange though, responded with a 9-0 run, sparked by #C.J. Fair#, James Southerland and Christmas, who combined for the nine points and helped SU tie the game at 15.
Joseph's highlight reel dunk with :40 seconds remaining in the first half gave Syracuse its first lead of the game at 26-25, which Dion Waiters followed with a runner in the lane at the buzzer, giving the Orange a three point halftime advantage.
Following Cincinnati's 5-of-6 start from the field, Syracuse held the Bearcats to just 4-of-20 for the remainder of the half. SU ended the opening frame with a 13-5 run.
Cincinnati scored the first four points of the second half to regain the lead at 29-28. After a Triche fast break layup, the Bearcats then scored five in a row to go ahead 34-30 and forced SU into a timeout.
SU responded out of the break, converting on its next four possessions and knotted the game at 38 heading into the first media timeout of the second half.
After the two teams traded baskets, Jardine and Triche hit SU's first three pointers of the evening on back-to-back possessions, and gave the Orange its largest lead at 46-42. Triche then turned defense into offense with a steal and an assist to Joseph who slammed it home for a six points lead with 7:39 remaining.
Joseph's drive and conversion expanded the Orange lead to eight with 6:00 left, and from that point on, Cincinnati would not be able to close within six points. With less than two minutes to go and the shot clock running out, Jardine hit a dagger from downtown to give SU an 11 point lead and put the game out of reach.
The Orange shot 46 percent for the game (26-of-56) and held the Bearcats to 34 percent (21-of-61). Cashmere Wright and Yance Gates led the Cincinnati offense with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
