SU Faces England in Champion Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - Syracuse lacrosse is making a splash at the US Lacrosse Champion Challenge in Disney this year. US Lacrosse's annual Champion Challenge is taking place for the seventh consecutive year at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida, Jan. 27-29, 2012.
This year, the Syracuse women's lacrosse team will square off against Team England on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Syracuse is one of three women's lacrosse squads attending the tournament, including Northwestern and Maryland.
The U.S. Women's Team also features three Syracuse lacrosse names: junior Michelle Tumolo, former Orange standout Katie Rowan '09, and new assistant coach Katrina Dowd. Team USA plays Team England on Friday at 7 p.m. and Maryland on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The U.S. women's national team will face defending NCAA champion Northwestern on Sunday at 11 a.m. live on ESPN3. ESPN will televise the game on Jan. 29 at 10:30 a.m. This will be the final training opportunity for the 38-player 2011-12 squad, before the roster is trimmed to 24 in preparation for a summer competition tour in Oshawa, Canada, host of the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup.
The U.S. Men's National Team also features some familiar faces. Team USA includes former Syracuse standout attackman Casey Powell '98 as well as recent Syracuse graduates midfielder Steven Brooks '08 and attackman Mike Leveille '08.
The 21-member U.S. men's national team will square off against the Denver, a 2011 NCAA semifinalist, immediately following the women's game on Sunday and beginning at 1:30 p.m. live on ESPN3. The game will also be shown on ESPN on Jan. 29, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The roster includes players from the 2010 World Cup team and the 2009 training team as well as numerous professional level standouts.
