ORANGE IN RARE COMPANY
No. 1 Syracuse is one of four Division I teams that are unbeaten this season. The other three schools with perfect records are Baylor, Missouri and Murray State. The Orange has opened the season with 15 straight wins for the second consecutive year. The Orange started last season by winning its first 18 games, which marked the second-best start in school history. SU was one win away from equaling the program's best start of 19-0 in 1999-2000.
RESERVES MAKE AN IMPACT
Syracuse's bench has been a key factor in its early-season success. The Orange's reserves have accounted for 47.2 percent of SU's scoring this season. Syracuse is averaging 37.5 bench points per game, while its opponents are getting 15.6 points per game from their bench.
Sophomore Dion Waiters has played in all 15 games in a reserve role. He is SU's second-leading scorer, averaging 12.5 points per game. In addition, sophomore #C.J. Fair is second on the team in minutes played behind senior Kris Joseph#.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse extended its winning streak to 15 games with an 87-68 victory at DePaul on Sunday, Jan. 1 in Chicago, Ill. Five players reached double-figures in scoring, including senior Kris Joseph, who tallied a season-high 22 points.
Junior Brandon Triche's layup at the 17:54 mark of the first half sparked the Orange on a 15-2 run that gave it control of the game. A pair of free throws by Fair gave Syracuse the lead for good as SU led 45-26 at halftime.
The Orange maintained its lead throughout the second half as the Blue Demons could get no closer than 16 points. Syracuse dominated the middle, outscoring DePaul, 58-34, in the paint. The SU stellar defense was also on display as it recorded 10 steals and blocked 11 shots.
Fair finished with a season-high 16 points, while sophomore Fab Melo matched his career high of 12 points to along with six blocked shots. Sophomore Dion Waiters contributed 13 points, and Triche added 10 points. Joseph also led SU with seven rebounds.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Providence is 11-4 this season and has lost its first two conference games of the year. The Friars won seven in a row before losing at St. John's, 91-67, in its league opener. Georgetown defeated Providence, 49-40, last Saturday.

Previously, Cooley served as head coach at Fairfield for the past five seasons. He also spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Boston College.
