Orange Shutouts Quinnipiac, 4-0

A two goal effort from Shiann Darkangelo helped the Syracuse ice hockey team (3-3-0, 2-0-0 CHA) shutout Quinnipaic, 4-0, this afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Junior goaltender Kallie Billadeau posted 29 saves in her second shutout of the season. Billadeau now has five career shutouts. Redshirt freshman Laurie Kingsbury and junior Nicole Ferrara each scored goals in the game as well.
For the second straight game, the first period remained scoreless between Syracuse and Quinnipiac. SU held a slight advantage in shots, 10-8.
The second period was when SU got its chance to take the lead. Freshman defenseman Danielle Leslie found Laurie Kingsbury in front of the crease. Kingsbury's initial shot was saved but Darkangelo came in across the goal and buried the rebound glove side, giving SU the 1-0 advantage. It was Darkangelo's second goal of the season.
Five minutes into the third period, senior defenseman Greco took a shot that was saved by goaltender Chelsea Laden. Kingsbury gathered the puck and found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Freshman forward Melissa Piacentini was credited with the secondary assist.
Both Piacentini and Kingsbury continued their point-streaks against the Bobcats. Kingsbury is on a six-game point streak (4g, 4a) while Piacentini has notched a point in five-straight contests (2g, 3a). Both are in their debut seasons for the Orange.
The Orange went on its fourth power play of the game after Quinnipiac's Kelly Babstock was called for tripping. Junior defenseman Caitlin Roach put the puck on net and Ferrara was able to tap it in, extending SU's lead to 3-0.
Darkangelo scored her second tally of the game at 16:19 into the third period, securing the Orange's 4-0 victory.
QU then had back-to-back power plays towards the end of the third period, but the SU penalty killing unit held them off.
SU outshot Quinnipiac, 34-29 and were 1-for-4 on the power play.
The Orange is at Connecticut next weekend on Friday, Oct. 26th (7 p.m.) and Saturday, Oct. 27th (3 p.m.).
