Orange and Tigers Skate to a 2-2 Tie

The Syracuse ice hockey team picked up its first tie this season at RIT, 2-2, in a conference matchup. The Orange's (5-5-1, 2-0-1 CHA) two goals were scored by sophomore forward Allie LaCombe and junior defensemen Akane Hosoyamada. Junior goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater tied her season-best with 36 saves against the Tigers.
"I give RIT full marks for their effort today," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "They played determined. We got a nice goal with three minutes left to tie."
LaCombe scored her second goal of the season seven minutes into the game to put the Orange up, 1-0. Both Julie Knerr and Cara Johnson had the assists. It was Johnson's first point of the season.
The Tigers tied it up in the second when Kim Schlattman notched her fifth goal of the season on an RIT power play. At 15:37 in the third, Carly Payerl notched another power play goal, giving RIT the 2-1 advantage.
With four minutes remaining in the period, Schlattman was called for tripping, putting SU on its fifth power play of the game. Hosoyamada notched a goal at 17:00, tying the game up and sending it into overtime. Both Caitlin Roach and Margot Scharfe were credited with the assists.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in overtime.
The Tigers outshot the Orange, 38-42. This was only the second game this season that the Orange have been outshot.
The two conference opponents meet again on Tuesday, Nov. 20th at 7 p.m. in Syracuse at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
