Women’s Rowing Takes Top Spots At Home

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse women's rowing swept the top two spots in the varsity four to highlight a success day on home waters for the Orange at the Syracuse Invitational against crews from Buffalo, Colgate and Cornell.
Syracuse's V4A boat of Gillian Carlucci (coxswain), Maggie McCrudden, Emma Basher, Carmen Failla and Anna Kaszycki won the 10-boat Flight A in a time of 18:42.6, edging the Orange V4B of Kristina Herb (coxswain), Rose Aschebrock, Rebecca Soja, Natalie Mastracci and Miranda Williams by a second (18:43.6). Cornell's top two crews came in third and fourth, while the Orange "C" boat placed fifth.
Syracuse's "A" novice eight took second in a time of 19:04.6, behind Cornell and ahead of Buffalo's lightweight eight.
In the V4 Flight B, Syracuse's "D" boat claimed second place and its "F" boat finished third behind the winning crew from Cornell. The Orange crews went on to finish third and fourth in the rerow.
The Syracuse Invitational, the Orange's lone home regatta of the fall season for both the men's and women's teams, is an annual head race that begins on the Seneca River and works its way back to the Ten Eyck Boathouse on the Onondaga River Outlet.
The Orange heads to Boston next weekend to compete at the Foot of the Charles on Nov. 10.
