The Particulars
• The Orange has a home-and-home series this weekend against No. 2 Clarkson. Syracuse (9-6-1) travels to the Golden Knights (13-3-0) on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. SU then returns home on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. to host Clarkson.
Weekend Recap
•SU split its series at home with CHA foe, Robert Morris. The Orange fell on Saturday, 2-1, in its first conference loss of the season. Shiann Darkangelo scored the lone goal in the first period off of an assist by Melissa Piacentini. Kaillie Billadeau had 25 saves in net.
•On Saturday, the Orange returned the favor by handing RMU its first conference loss of the season. SU skated to a 4-3 victory behind two goals from Jacquie Greco and a game-winning power play tally from Nicole Ferrara that happened with 1:45 left in the game. Jenesica Drinkwater notched 21 saves in the thrilling victory.
Orange Analysis
• Seventeen different skaters have notched at least one point for the Orange this season.
• Leading the Orange offensive attack is senior captain Holly Carrie-Mattimoe who has seven goals and six assists for a team-high 13 points. Nicole Ferrara has a team-best eight assists this season while Shiann Darkangelo has notched seven goals and four assists for SU.
• Goaltenders Kallie Billadeau and Jenesica Drinkwater have been strong in net for the Orange this season. Billadeau has a program-best four shutouts this season and six in her career. The junior has a GAA or 1.25 and a save percentage of .943. Drinkwater has two shutouts this season, while recording a GAA of 2.38 and a save percentage of .908.
Scouting the Colonials
• Record: 13-3, 7-1 ECAC
• Series against Syracuse: Clarkson leads, 3-1-0
•Most recent meeting: 10/15/11 Clarkson 4, SU 2
• Clarkson suffered its first loss in six games against Colgate this past weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision at home. The Golden Knights sit second in the ECAC with a 7-1 record. The Golden Knight's 13-3 start is the best start in the program's 10-year history. The Knight's have posted five wins against Top-10 opponents.
• Jamie Lee Rattray leads the Clarkson offense with 14 goals and 12 assists. Between the pipes is Erica Howe who has notched a GAA of 1.34 and a save percentage of .945. Howe was most recently named the ECAC Goaltender of the Month for November.
The New Record Holder
• With her 35th career goal against RPI, Holly Carrie-Mattimoe because SU's all-time leading scorer. She now has 36 career goals
• Carrie-Mattimoe also set the career-high in points (83) and is tied for first in career assists (47).
• Earlier this season, Carrie-Mattimoe set the career power play goals record with 17.
More Broken Records
• With her 4-0 shutout against RPI, goaltender Kallie Billadeau's four shutouts this season sets a new program record.
• Billadeau also has six career shutouts, which is another SU career record.
Two From Greco
• Senior captain defenseman Jacquie Greco notched two goals against Robert Morris in SU's 4-3 win on Saturday.
• Greco was moved up to offense for Saturday's night game.
• So far this season, she has four goals and one assist.
Scharfe Stands Out
• Junior forward Margot Scharfe leads SU with 18 blocks. While being a scoring force on offense, Scharfe has come up with some huge blocks on SU's penalty-killing unit.
• Scharfe had her second two-goal game against RPI and scored a total of three goals in the weekend series.
• She was named the CHA Player of the Week (11/26/12) for her three-point weekend against RPI.
• At Penn State, she had two assists in game one of the series (10/13/12) and scored two goals in the second game (10/14/12).
Against Ranked Opponents
• This is the second time this season that the Orange will face a nationally ranked program.
• SU fell to No. 10 Northeastern, 5-2, in its second game of the season.
• All-time, the Orange hold a 3-29-1 record against nationally ranked opponents.
Ferrara an Offensive Threat
• Sophomore forward Nicole Ferrara notched the game-winning goal on the power play against Robert Morris with 1:45 in the game.
• Ferrara has scored four goals and has a team-high eight assists.
• She has a team-high three multi-point games.
• She tallied three points during the series at Union on one goal and two assists
