Duo Named to Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Syracuse junior Michelle Tumolo and sophomore Katie Webster have been named to the 2012 Tewaaraton Award watch list. The duo is among 53 women's lacrosse players, spanning all three divisions, named to the list.
Tumolo led the Orange in scoring in 2011 with 63 points. She set the school record for most assists in a season by a sophomore with a team-best 33. In the final NCAA rankings, Tumolo ranked 14th in assists and 12th in assists per game (1.83). In addition, she led SU with 15 caused turnovers. Tumolo 's list of honors in 2011 included selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team and the IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team. She was selected as the 2012 BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches.
Webster finished her freshman campaign with 39 points. She tied for second on the team in goals with 32 to go along with seven assists. Webster also recorded 18 draw controls, 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. She posted a season-best eight points (6g, 2a) against Virginia. Webster was also voted to the All-BIG EAST First Team and is a member of the 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
The Tewaaraton Trophy has been presented to the nation's most outstanding player each year since 2001. This year's award will be handed out on May 31 at the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
