SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's basketball team (17-11, 6-8 BIG EAST) concludes its regular season home slate on Saturday when it hosts No. 15/13 Georgetown (21-6, 10-4 BIG EAST) at 1 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
• It will be Senior Day at the Dome as SU, coming off an impressive 81-65 victory at No. 21/18 DePaul on Tuesday, will honor seniors Troya Berry and Iasia Hemingway before the game.
GAME COVERAGE
• The game will be televised on Syracuse University's CitrusTV.
• The game can be heard live on SU's flagship station ESPN 97.7 FM/1200 AM and on Orange All-Access at SUathletics.com with Brian Higgins '04 and Samantha Berdinka on the call. The game can also be heard on student station WJPZ 89.1 FM.
SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the 55th meeting all-time between Syracuse and Georgetown with the Hoyas holding a 30-24 edge in the series.
• The Hoyas have won the last six games, including a Jan.15 meeting (69-42), as well as the 2010-11 regular season game in Washington, D.C. (80-62) and in the BIG EAST Tournament (61-60).
• The Orange is 13-10 at home against Georgetown as opposed to 10-15 on the road.
• On Jan. 15 in Washington, D.C., the Hoyas turned 31 SU turnovers into 38 points to lead them to a 69-42 win over the Orange. Iasia Hemingway had 14 points and Kayla Alexander added 13 for SU, while Georgetown was led by Sugar Rodger's 23.
• On March 5, 2011 at the XL Center in Hartford, the Orange led by six with seven minutes to go, but a late Hoyas charge downed SU in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship, 61-60. Elashier Hall led Syracuse with 16 points, Hemingway scored 14, and Alexander added 11. Rodgers led the No. 15 Hoyas with 18 points and Rubylee Wright had 11.
• Two months earlier, on Jan. 4, No. 23 SU fell at No. 15 Georgetown, 80-62, despite having four players in double figures. Hall led the way with 16, while Alexander added 14, Erica Morrow had 13 and Hemingway had 10.
• SU's last win in the series was Feb. 26, 2008, 68-67, at the Carrier Dome.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
• The Hoyas are 21-6 overall and 10-4 in the BIG EAST. They are ranked No. 15 in this week's AP poll and No. 13 in the coaches poll.
• Georgetown has won six out of its last seven, with the lone loss coming at No. 3 Connecticut on Feb. 11 (80-38).
• Most recently the Hoyas have knocked off Villanova (60-54) on Feb. 14 and Providence (66-39) on Feb. 18.
• The Hoyas are led by the BIG EAST's leading scorer,, Sugar Rodgers. She averages 19.3 points per game and leads the club wirth 70 3-pointers.
• In the post, Tia Magee is averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds.
• Terri Williams-Flournoy is in her eighth season as head coach. She led the Hoyas to a 24-11 record and Sweet Sixteen appearance last season.
LAST TIME OUT
• Behind huge performances by Rachel Coffey and Carmen Tyson-Thomas, Syracuse defeated No. 21/20 DePaul (20-8, 8-6 BIG EAST), 81-65 on Wednesday.
• The victory against DePaul marked the Orange's first win against a team ranked in both major polls since 2010. SU defeated No. 6/6 Ohio State on Dec. 11, 2010.
• Coffey finished with a career-best 22 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Her six three-point field goals were a career-high, as well.
• Junior Tyson-Thomas recorded her seventh double-double of the year with 22 points and a career-best 15 rebounds.
• Third-year tandem Kayla Alexander and Elashier Hall each scored in double figures, tallying 17 and 15 points, respectively.
• SU went on to score 23 consecutive points over a 7:57 span in the second half to take a 64-43 advantage. During that period, Alexander tallied seven points. Coffey and Tyson-Thomas added six points each.
DOMINATING THE GLASS
• Dominant rebounding has become the norm for the Orange in recent years. Syracuse ranked fourth in the NCAA in rebounding at the start of the week, averaging 46.1 per game and ranked eighth in rebounding margin, pulling down an average of 9.7 per game more than its opponents.
• In the BIG EAST, SU leads the conference in rebounds per game (46.1), offensive rebounds (20.7) and is third in rebounding margin (+9.6).
• SU has four of the top 20 rebounders in the league (8. Carmen Tyson-Thomas, 7.9; 10. Kayla Alexander, 7.2; 16. Iasia Hemingway, 6.1; and 18. Shakeya Leary, 6.0.
• Syracuse led the NCAA in rebounding margin last season at +13.4 per game. SU outrebounded 31 of its 35 opponents.
STRONG AT THE STRIPE
• An aggressive, attacking style of offense results in the Orange ranking third in the NCAA in both free throws made (499) and free throws attempted (651).
• Syracuse leads the BIG EAST in free throw shooting percentage at .767.
• Carmen Tyson-Thomas leads the conference with a .892 mark from the free throw line this season.
• The Orange set a BIG EAST record for most free throws made without in a miss in a game at Providence (1/31) when it went 23-of-23.
• On Jan. 7 at Pitt, The Orange went 34-of-38 (.895) at the line, including Iasia Hemingway setting a school record with 15 free throws in 16 attempts.
ALEXANDER HONORED BY CONFERENCE
• After she scored 23 points in SU's lone game last week, a 79-63 win vs. Marquette, Kayla Alexander was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday.
• Alexander shot 11-of-13 (.769) from the floor, grabbed four rebounds and blocked five shots.
• It was Alexander's fourth time being named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season. The First-Team All-Conference center also had the honor on Nov. 21, Nov. 28 and Jan. 23.
• It was the seventh BIG EAST weekly award for Syracuse this season.
