PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 39 Syracuse University tennis team (10-4, 5-1) captured all three doubles matches and won every singles match to sweep the University of Pittsburgh 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.
With changes to the lineup, SU was still able to overpower the Panthers and took a 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point. The senior duo of Emily Harman and Alessondra Parra took care of business in first doubles, winning 8-5. Maddie Kobelt and Amanda Rodgers outlasted Pitt on court two 9-7, while Komal Safdar and Anika Novacek had little trouble on court three, winning 8-3.
Every singles match was won by Syracuse in straight sets. Harman won first singles 6-2, 6-0, and Koblet won second singles 6-3, 6-3.
Rodgers extended her winning-streak to 12 matches with a 6-4, 7-5 decision on court three against Taylor Washington. She now has a team best 13-1 singles mark. Safdar followed that up on court four by only dropping one game, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Court five saw Parra defeat Amanda Wickman 6-0, 6-3, while Novacek recorded her first career singles victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph on court six.
“I am extremely pleased with the way we took care of familiar foes this weekend,” head coach Luke Jensen said. “These our trap matches. They know us and know how we play. These are very important matches heading into spring break and like where we stand right now.”
The Orange is now off until the end of March when Syracuse will host Binghamton and Boston U on the 23rd and the 25th.
