SENIOR DAY AT THE DOME
Ten members of the Orange program will be honored prior to the Georgetown game in a short ceremony as part of Senior Day. Ryan Barber, Bryan Clegg, Collin Donahue, Paul Dubas, Kevin Drew, Bobby Eilers, Steve Ianzito, Joe Moore, Gairet Myers and Tommy Palasek will all be introduced individually before faceoff and be recognized for their contributions to the program.
On the field, the Class of 2012 is 51-11 in its time at Syracuse with two BIG EAST regular-season championships (2010, 2011) and one NCAA title (2009) to its credit.
THE COACHES
Saturday's game represents a clash of two of the top five Division I coaches in active winning percentage. Orange mentor John Desko tops the list with a career .768 winning percentage. Desko has five national championships and a 169-51 overall record. The Hoyas' Dave Urick is fourth on the list (.727). Urick is the NCAA all-time wins leader with 343 in 32-plus years at Hobart and Georgetown. Urick won 10 NCAA Division III Championships as the head coach at Hobart during the 1980s.
Desko is 13-3 all-time in head-to-head meetings with Urick and has won the last five. Urick is 6-24 in his career against Syracuse. He was 2-8 versus Syracuse at Hobart and he is 4-16 against the Orange since taking over at Georgetown in 1990.
APPOACHING 100
Senior Tommy Palasek is closing in on 100 career points. The Rocky Point, N.Y. native needs one more to reach the milestone. Palasek has 99 points (50g, 49a) in 57 career games, including his two seasons at Johns Hopkins. Palasek scored his 50th career goal in SU's 13-12 win at Hobart on April 17.
DOIN' IT ALL
Junior defenseman Brian Megill turned in one of the best all-around performances in recent Syracuse lacrosse history Tuesday at Hobart. In addition to leading the Orange defense, he scored his first career goal, passed out an assist, picked up a career-high nine ground balls and attempted eight faceoffs. Megill is the first SU player to record a goal, an assist and pick up at least nine ground in the same game since Matt Abbott (1g, 1a, 10 GBs) turned the trick against Princeton in the 2009 Big City Classic at Giants Stadium.
EILERS FINDING THE RANGE
Senior Bobby Eilers has three consecutive two-goal games, scoring twice against Cornell (April 10), Rutgers (April 14) and Hobart (April 17). Overall, the Simsbury, Conn. product leads all Orange middies with 12 goals this season and has four multi-goal games on the year.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas have lost their last three games, all to BIG EAST opponents, and need a win to remain in the hunt for a BIG EAST Tournament berth. Georgetown is averaging 9.18 goals per game, while giving up 10.27. The Hoyas' man-up unit has been effective, clicking at 40.5 percent (17-42) this season.
Junior Brian Casey (14g, 13a) is Georgetown's top scorer with 27 points. He's complemented by Tully, N.Y. native Zac Guy who has 20 points, including a team-best 17 goals, and Travis Comeau (15g, 3a). Middies Jason McFadden (12g, 9a) and Dan McKinney (10g, 6a) have contributed consistently on offense.
Defensively, long-stick middie Gerry Reilly leads Georgetown with 32 ground balls. Brennan Bicknese (10 GBs), Bobby Boyle (28 GBs) and Chris Nourse (22 GBs) make up the close defense. Nourse has a squad-best 18 caused turnovers.
Goalie Matt Winter has a 10.11 goals-against average and .514 save percentage in nine starts. He owns a 4-5 record with 93 saves.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Georgetown have played at least once every year since 1995 and the Orange holds a 16-4 series advantage. SU owns the longest winning streak in series history, winning eight straight meetings from 1999-2004. One of those pairings was a 24-16 SU win during the 2000 season. The Orange's 24 goals in that contest are the most in John Desko's tenure as head coach.
