Duo Named Tewaaraton Trophy Nominees

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Syracuse junior Michelle Tumolo and sophomore Alyssa Murray are among 25 women's nominees for the 12th annual Tewaaraton Trophy announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Wednesday, April 25. The Orange is one of six schools to have more than one nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy, which is presented each year to the top female and male collegiate lacrosse player in the nation.
Tumolo leads the team and ranks 13th in the nation assists per game (2.36). She has recorded 33 goals and 33 assists for 66 points this season. Tumolo is a three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honoree and earned the Baltimore Sun's National Player of the Week award after scoring five points in the Orange's upset of No. 3 Maryland. She tied her career high with five assists against Cincinnati to become the second player in school history to record 200 points and 100 assists in her career.
Murray ranks fourth in the nation in points (80) and fifth in goals (3.6) and points (5.33) per game. She has posted career highs in every offensive category this season. Murray set a school record with eight goals in Syracuse's victory against Boston College in the season opener. She finished with 10 points against the Eagles, which tie her for fourth on SU's single-game record list. Murray has tallied six or more goals in a game four times this season.
Five women's and men's finalists will be announced on May 10 and invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on May 31 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
