WASHINGTON,DC – A historic season came to an end for the Syracuse women's lacrosse program at the 2012 Tewaaraton Banquet on May 31 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Junior Michelle Tumolo was one of five finalists for the award, which goes to the college lacrosse player of the year.
Tumolo joins Katie Rowan '09 as the only players in school history to be named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy. Four of this year's five finalists were juniors, including Maryland's Katie Schwarzmann, who took home the 2012 award.
Tumolo spent two days in Washington, taking part in activities for both the men's and women's finalists. And although she didn't win the award, it was experience Tumolo will never forget.
“This experience has been great,” Tumolo said. “I'm so lucky and grateful to be a part of this. I'm very happy for the winners.”
Tumolo was a first-team All-American in 2012 and earned the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year award. She was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and was a member of the conference's all-tournament team. Tumolo helped the Orange to a school-record 19 victories and the program's first appearance in the national championship game.
