TOWSON, Md. – Recent graduate and tennis standout Emily Harman has received Capital One Third Team Academic All-America® honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Harman graduated with a 3.95 GPA in health and science with a minor in biology. Along with being the Class of 2012 Student Marshal, she was a Chancellor's Scholar, a Con Med Corporation Scholar and a member of the Dean's List and the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester at Syracuse.
The Petersburg, W.Va. native was nominated for the award as an at-large candidate. The Capital One Academic All-America® Women's At-Large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.
Harman became eligible for All-American status after being named a First Team District 1 All-Academic honoree. All the first team award winners from the eight districts across the country were put back into a pool for All-American consideration.
Arguable the best player to ever come through the SU tennis program, Harman led Syracuse to its highest ITA national ranking in program history this season of No. 39. She played No. 1 singles and doubles all four years for the Orange and compiled 123 wins, ranking her 19th all-time.
Brooke Pancake of Alabama was named the Academic All-American of the Year. Click here for a full list of Academic All-Americans.
