WENTZVILLE, MO - The Syracuse women's ice hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak, defeating Lindenwood, 2-1, on the road tonight. The Orange (11-11-1, 5-3-1 CHA) picked up its fifth CHA win of the season behind goals from forwards Julie Knerr and Melissa Piacentini, while freshman defenseman Nicole Renault had two assists. Junior goaltender Kallie Billadeau recorded 28 saves in the win.
"We struggled early on, but managed to put together a strong third period and get two points," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Lindenwood did a great job defensively and kept us off the board until Piacentini's game-winning goal."

It took the Orange just less than six minutes to get on the scoreboard. Renault found Knerr, who beat goaltender Taylor Fairchild for her second goal of the season and gave SU a 1-0 advantage.

At 12:46 in the second period, senior Jacquie Greco was called for interference, putting the Lions on the power play. With less than four seconds left on the man advantage, Kendra Broad tied up the game with the power play goal.

Piacentini's game-winning goal came 4:26 into the third period. Renault had the primary assist, while Allie LaCombe was credited with the secondary helper. The Lions pulled Fairchild at the end of the game in attempt to even up the score, but the Orange held off their attempt.

At Lindenwood, Syracuse was 0-for-6 on the power play and recorded 41 shots on goal compared to Lindenwood's 29.

The two teams meet again tomorrow at 2 p.m.
