SU Sweeps Lindenwood with 8-1 Win

WENTZVILLE, MO. - Ten different Orange registered at least one point in the Syracuse women's ice hockey team 8-1 win at Lindenwood (12-11-1, 6-3-1 CHA) this afternoon. Junior defenseman Kaillie Goodnough led the Orange with a four-point game after recording four assists. The last time that someone from SU recorded four assists was Julie Rising against Northeastern (10/1/10).

"It was great to see a lot of different players contribute offensively today," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Billadeau and Drinkwater did a great job in net in helping us get the sweep."

Three SU skaters had multiple goal games – Sadie St. Germain, Melissa Piacentini and Shiann Darkangelo each scored twice against Lindenwood. This was the second time this season that Piacentini has scored twice in a contest, while it is the third for Darkangelo. Piacentini is now on a four-game point streak, dating back to her assist on Jacquie Greco's goal against #7 Mercyhurst (1/12/13). In that stretch, Piacentini has registered three goals and two assists.

 The eight goals that the Orange scored were the most that SU has scored so far this season. Prior to tonight, the most goals they scored were six against Colgate (1/8/13). The Orange notched 54 shots, three behind the Orange's season –high of 57 that they had at Penn State (10/13/12).

Junior goaltenders Kallie Billadeau and Jenesica Drinkwater split times between the pipes against the Lions. Billadeau recorded 11 saves in the first period and halfway through the second, while Drinkwater finished out the game with seven saves.

The Orange put together a four goal period in the first frame. St. Germain got the puck moving for SU, scoring the first goal of the game at 9:06 into the contest. Only 41 seconds later, Darkangelo would net one of her own. Both of Darkangelo's goals came in the first period at 9:47 and 16:05. Piacentini added a shorthanded goal at 11:56. Piacentini's shorthanded goal was the fourth one that has been scored by the Orange this season.

SU's four goals in the first period were the most they have scored in the first 20 minutes of play all season. Prior to today's game, the most goals they had scored in the first period were two, which they accomplished against No. 2 Clarkson (12/8/12). Â

Thirty-seven seconds into the second period was when Lindenwood would strike. Allysson Arcibal scored her eighth goal of the season to put the Lions within three goals, 4-1.

Senior Margot Scharfe extended the Orange's advantage to 5-1 when she scored on the power play at 5:33. Two more goals would be scored for SU in the second period, this time by forward Nicole Ferrara at 13:57 and St. Germain's second of the night at 14:59. Ferrara would also contribute two assists on the night for a total of three points.
