Orange Goes on the Road to Face USF

TAMPA – No. 7/7 Syracuse plays the first of two consecutive road games on Sunday, Jan. 6 when it takes on USF at noon in Tampa. The Orange (13-1) was victorious in its BIG EAST opener while Sunday's game will be the conference game of the year for the Bulls (9-3).
The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Network, Time Warner Sports Cable and SNY. Fans can listen to the action on the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse opened BIG EAST play with a 78-53 victory against Rutgers on Wednesday, Jan. 2 in the Carrier Dome. Senior Brandon Triche led the Orange offense with a season-high 25 points.
The first 11:41 featured three ties as neither team could pull away. A jumper by Eli Carter at the 8:18 mark gave the Scarlet Knights a 20-18 lead. That would be Rutgers last points of the half as the Orange scored 21 unanswered points to take a 39-20 halftime lead. Triche had 11 points in the first half, while junior C.J. Fair added 10.
Syracuse controlled the second half as its lead never dipped below 20 points. The Orange shot 45.9 percent (28-for-61) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-for-18) from the line as it extended its home winning streak to 33 games, which is the longest active streak in Division I.
Triche was 8-for-11 from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range. Fair finished with 15 points, while sophomore Michael Carter-Williams recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
USF has won its last four contests, which has improved its record to 9-3 this season. The Bulls have been successful at home, posting a 7-2 mark on its home court.
Toarlyn Fitzpatrick leads a balanced USF scoring attack, averaging 11.7 points per game. Victor Rudd (11.3 ppg.), Jawanza Poland (11.1 ppg.) and Anthony Collins (10.2 ppg.) are also averaging double-digits in scoring. Collins is fifth in the nation and second in the league behind Michael Carter-Williams in assists (7.82 apg.), while Rudd leads the team and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in rebounding (7.8 rpg.).
Stan Heath is in his fifth season at the helm of the Bulls' program. He has guided USF to four post-season appearances, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. Previously, Heath served as the head coach at Kent State and Arkansas.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series against USF, 9-1. The Orange has won the last four meetings, including last year's contest in the Carrier Dome (56-48). The Bulls' only victory against SU came in 2008.
