The Particulars
• The Orange open up the second half of the season with three games this week. SU hosts Colgate on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange then continue CHA play when it travels to No. 7 Mercyhurst this weekend. SU and the Lakers square off on Friday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Weekend Recap
• Syracuse fell in its two most recent games against No. 2 Clarkson. The Orange lost 3-2 on Friday at Clarkson. Holly Carrie-Mattimoe and Sadie St. Germain scored two special teams goals against the Golden Knights, with Carrie-Mattimoe's coming on the power play while St. Germain's was short handed. Goaltender Kaillie Billadeau stopped a season-best 42 shots.
 • On Saturday night, the two teams met in Syracuse and the Golden Knights defeated the Orange, 5-4. SU didn't go down without a fight, scoring two goals after being down, 5-2. Carrie-Mattimoe, Allie LaCombe, Shiann Darkangelo and Margot Scharfe all notched goals for SU.
Orange Analysis
• Seventeen different skaters have notched at least one point for the Orange this season.
• Leading the Orange offensive attack is senior captain Holly Carrie-Mattimoe who has nine goals and seven assists for a team-high 16 points. Nicole Ferrara has a team-best 10 assists this season while Shiann Darkangelo has notched eight goals and four assists for SU.
• Goaltenders Kallie Billadeau and Jenesica Drinkwater have been strong in net for the Orange this season. Billadeau has a program-best four shutouts this season and six in her career. The junior has a GAA of 1.43 and a save percentage of .941. Drinkwater has two shutouts this season, while recording a GAA of 2.79 and a save percentage of .895.
Scouting the Raiders
• Record: 5-12-2, 1-7-2 ECAC
• Series against Syracuse: Colgate leads, 5-1-1
• Most recent meeting: 1/2/12 Colgate 5, SU 0
• Colgate opened up 2013 by splitting its series at Vermont. The Raiders fell short, 2-1, the first night before recording a 4-3 overtime win. Junior Jocelyn Simpson scored two goals, including the overtime game winner, and had two assists in the victory.
• Senior Jenna Klynstra leads the Raiders scoring attack with four goals and 10 assists. Both Brittany Phillips and Simpson each have a team-high five goals apiece.
Scouting the Lakers
• Record: 14-3-1, 6-2-0 CHA
• Series against SU: Mercyhurst leads, 18-0-1
• Most recent meeting: 3/2/12 MU 4, SU 3
• The last time these two CHA foes met, the Lakers edged SU 4-3 in the CHA semifinals. Shiann Darkangelo netted a hat trick in the loss.
•Christine Bestland has a conference-high 40 points on 13 goals and 27 assists. She leads her team in both goals and assists. Goaltender Stephanie Ciampa has a GAA of 1.10 and a save percentage of .944.
• Mercyhust suffered its first conference losses this season after being swept by Robert Morris.
• The Lakers have won 11 of its games by three goals or more.
Just Short
• The Orange ended its first half of the season by being swept by No. 2 Clarkson.
• However, in each game the Orange only fell by just one goal.
• Out of SU's eight losses, five have only come by one goal.
Against Ranked Opponents
• This is the third time this season that the Orange will face a nationally ranked program when they travel to No. 7 Mercyhurst.
• The Orange hung in with No. 2 Clarkson in December, but eventually fell, 3-2 and 5-4.
• SU fell to No. 10 Northeastern, 5-2, in its second game of the season.
• All-time, the Orange hold a 3-31-1 record against nationally ranked opponents.
Good Break
• This is the second time this season the Orange will play following a significant break.
•The Orange was on the road for three straight weeks before having a ten day break in November.
• Following the month away from Tennity, the Orange went 3-0 at home defeating RIT, 2-1, in overtime and shutting out RPI, 4-0 and 4-0.
• Syracuse outshot its opponents, 10-1, this past week in three games.
On the Road Again
• Syracuse is 4-3-1 on the road this season.
• Beginning with its series at No. 7 Mercyhurst this season, The Orange will play five-straight games away from Tennity Ice Pavilion before returning home on Friday, Jan. 25, to host Penn State.
• The Orange played five-straight games on the road starting with its series at UConn before they returned home on November 20th to host RIT.
• In that span, the Orange went 2-2-1.
The New Record Holder
• With her 35th career goal against RPI, Holly Carrie-Mattimoe because SU's all-time leading scorer. She now has 38 career goals
• Carrie-Mattimoe also set the career-high in points (86) and is tied for first in career assists (48).
• Earlier this season, Carrie-Mattimoe set the career power play goals record with 19.
Orange Special Teams
• The Orange has gone 14-for-79 (.177) so far this season on the power play which is good for a 15th place ranking in the nation.
• The SU penalty killing unit has gone 59-for-71 (.831) which ties them at 19th in the NCAA.
More Broken Records
• With her 4-0 shutout against RPI, goaltender Kallie Billadeau's four shutouts this season sets a new program record.
• Billadeau also has six career shutouts, which is another SU career record.
Carrie-Mattimoe's Streak
• Senior forward Holly Carrie-Mattimoe is currently on a three game scoring streak (3g, 1a).
 • The captain registered three straight games with one goal and had a three-point weekend against No. 2 Clarkson.
Two From Greco
• Senior captain defenseman Jacquie Greco notched two goals against Robert Morris in SU's 4-3 win on Saturday.
• Greco was moved up to offense for Saturday's night game and played on the third line for both games against Clarkson.
• So far this season, she has four goals and two assists.
Scharfe Stands Out
• Junior forward Margot Scharfe leads SU with 20 blocks. While being a scoring force on offense, Scharfe has come up with some huge blocks on SU's penalty-killing unit.
• Scharfe had her second two-goal game against RPI and scored a total of three goals in the weekend series.
• She was named the CHA Player of the Week (11/26/12) for her three-point weekend against RPI.
• At Penn State, she had two assists in game one of the series (10/13/12) and scored two goals in the second game (10/14/12).
Ferrara an Offensive Threat
• Sophomore forward Nicole Ferrara notched the game-winning goal on the power play against Robert Morris with 1:45 left in the game.
• Ferrara has scored four goals and has a team-high 10 assists.
• She has a team-high three multi-point games.
• She tallied three points during the series at Union on one goal and two assists
