Box Score
POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Syracuse ice hockey team lost in its second game against No. 3 Clarkson, 4-0, this time on the Golden Knight's home ice at Cheel Arena on Saturday evening. Kallie Billadeau had her second consecutive 30+ save game but her efforts in front of the net weren't enough to stop Clarkson.
Â
The Orange (1-3-0) were able to put more shots on the board than in last night's contest against the Golden Knights (5-0-0), getting 26 shots on target, though Clarkson's 36 proved to be too much to handle for Syracuse. Each team had four power play opportunities and Clarkson converted on two of them.
Â
Clarkson scored its first goal midway through the first period when Carly Mercer rebounded a shot tipped by her sister, Cayley Mercer on the power play to take an early 1-0 lead.
Â
The Orange held off the Clarkson offense for the next 18 minutes but the Golden Knights struck again when Genevieve Bannon dribbled one up from the blue line and into the net. Christine Lambert and Carly Mercer were credited with assists on the play.
Â
The Golden Knights added two more to the board in the third period, one on a man up opportunity and one on an empty net. Erin Ambrose flipped one in at 16:57 to solidify the Clarkson victory and Vanessa Gagnon stole the puck with 23 second left in the game and put it into an unguarded net to bring the score to 4-0.
Â
The Orange is back in action next weekend at Providence College at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.Â
