Providence Holds Off SU, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Syracuse dropped its fourth straight contest, this time losing to Providence, 2-1 on Friday night at Schneider Arena. Brittney Krebs scored the lone goal for the Orange, her second of the season, while Kallie Billadeau made 25 saves in net.

The Friars struck first, scoring 5:58 minutes into the first period. Janine Weber scored the goal off a pass from Cassidy Carels, her second of the season.

Billadeau fended off the Providence offense for the next 25 minutes until Corrine Buie netted the game winner off a setup from Courtney Kukowski and Brittney Thunstrom.

Syracuse was able to keep things interesting in the third period when Brittney Krebs scored an unassisted power play goal on the power play to make it 2-1 with 14 minutes left in the game. The Orange was unable to tie the game despite 14 shots, however, and fell to the Friars.

With Krebs' goal, Syracuse is now 5-27 on power plays this season, which accounts for 63 percent of the team's total goals on the season.

The Orange play again tomorrow at Providence and will drop the puck at 3 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
