SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Orange begins conference play this weekend against Penn State, taking on the Nittany Lions on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Last season, PSU's first year in the CHA, Syracuse won all four contests against Penn State, helping them to a 13-6-1 conference record.

SU defeated No. 4/3 Boston College and Union at home two weekends ago to improve to a 4-4-0 record on the season. The Orange looks to improve to a winning record after taking last weekend off.

WHAT A WEEKEND!
• The Orange won both games of the weekend to even its record at 4-4-0 on the season. SU has now won its last three contests. With those wins, SU received votes in both the USCHO.com (1) and USA Today (3) polls for the first time since the week of Oct. 25 in 2010.
• Syracuse's first win of the weekend came against No. 4/3 Boston College, a decisive 4-1 victory over the nationally-touted Eagles on Friday.
• SU went on to defeat Union College on Saturday afternoon, a 5-2 win that brought the Orange to .500 on the year and 2-1 at home.
• Kallie Billadeau was the goalie in charge against BC and the win was her second of the season, both against ranked opponents. Billadeau is now 2-4-0.
• Jenesica Drinkwater also earned her second win of the season, defeating Union and maintaining her 1.000 win percentage (2-0-0).
• Margot Scharfe and Nicole Renault each had four points on the weekend. Scharfe scored three goals and one helper and Renault's points all came off assists, two in each game.
• Two Rookies each contributed two points this weekend, with Jessica Sibley scoring a goal against BC and an assist against Union and Larissa Martyniuk helping on two power play scores against Union.

SCOUTING PENN STATE
• Penn State enters the weekend with a 2-7-1 record defeating Union and Vermont, who they also tied.
• The Nittany Lions are currently on a four game losing streak, most recently losing to conference foe Robert Morris twice last weekend.
• Shannon Yoxheimer is the PSU leading point scorer with eight on the season off three goals and five assists. Taylor Gross is right behind her with three goals and four assists. Laura Bowman is the leading goal-scorer with four on the season.
• Celine Whitlinger and Nicole Paniccia have split equal minutes in net this year. Whitlinger is responsible for both of their wins and Paniccia was awarded with the tie. Whitlinger has a .921 save percentage and a 3.22 GAA while Paniccia has posted a .889 save percentage and a 4.17 GAA.

POINTS VS. PENN STATE
• The Orange recorded four wins against PSU last season, the most wins the Orange has recorded against an opponent in a single season in program history.
• Syracuse recorded three shutouts against Penn State, previously the most the Orange tallied in a single season. SU recorded eight shutouts in 2012-13.
• Seven returning skaters had multiple points against the Nittany Lions in 2012-13:
                - Scharfe: 2g, 4a
                - Ferrara: 2g, 3a
                - Piacentini: 2g, 2a
                - Renault: 1g, 2a
                - Krebs: 3a
                - Goodnough: 1g, 1a
                - Roach: 2a

THREE GOALS SHOULD DO IT
• The Orange have won by a three-goal margin in each of its four wins this season and have not lost by a three point margin so far this year.
• Three of the wins were 4-1 victories including wins over No. 10 Northeastern, Providence College and No. 4/3 Boston College.
• Syracuse defeated Union 5-2, scoring the most goals in a single game and tallying 10 assists along the way.
• Three of SU's four losses have been by one goal; the fourth was a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Clarkson.

GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM RENAULT
• Nicole Renault tallied a combined five assists against Boston College and Union to take the lead in assists on the season with eight.
• She currently averages 1.00 assists per game on the season, which ranks first in the SU record book and sixth in the nation. Her career average of .43 APG ranks seventh all time at SU.
• Renault has the fifth most points per game by a Division I defenseman this season with 1.12.
• Renault has recorded three multi-point games so far this season, all attributed to two or more assists. Each of those games were wins, recording two helpers against No. 10 Northeastern and No. 4/3 Boston College and three against Union.
• Last season Renault recorded 11 assists in 36 games played.

SPECIAL TEAMS SUCCESS
• The Orange has scored 11 power play goals so far this season. Aside from the shutout at No. 3 Clarkson, SU has scored on the power play in every game.
• The success is highlighted by an incredible performance on the power play against Union College, scoring four power play goals on five opportunities.
• The Orange is tied with UNH for fourth in the nation in power play percentage (23.9%) and is sixth in the nation in the penalty kill, preventing an opponent man-up goal 91.5 percent of the time.
• SU has not allowed an opponent power play goal for the last four games, preventing a goal in the last 27 man-down situations.
• Syracuse is effective on special teams 58.1 percent of the time which ranks sixth nationally, although the Orange has had more special teams opportunities than each of the schools ranked above them.
• Syracuse is 11-46 (.239) on power plays this season and has netted 11 of 50 man-up shots (.220).
• Senior goaltenders Kallie Billadeau and Jenesica Drinkwater have combined to save 70 of 74 man-up shots taken by SU opponents so far this season (.946).
