Syracuse, NY - The Orange suffered its second overtime loss of the season, falling to Lindenwood, 2-1, at home. Senior Jacquie Greco scored the lone goal for the Orange (18-14-1, 12-6-1 CHA) to tie up the game while junior goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater tallied 34 saves. The two teams meet again in SU's regular-season finale tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 27th, at 7 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Greco and fellow senior Holly Carrie-Mattimoe will be honored prior to tomorrow night's game.
"I thought both goalies were excellent and Drinkwater kept us in the game when it was 1-0," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "She gave us a chance to come back. They out worked us." Â
With 56 seconds left in the first period, the Lions got onto the scoreboard after Allysson Arcibal found the back of the net after picking up the puck off of a rebound.
Both teams were scoreless in the second period with the Lions this time holding the advantage in shots, 13-9. SU outshot the Lions in the first frame, 14-10.
Greco would tie up the game, 1-1, at 10:09 in the third frame. After Knerr won a faceoff in the Orange's offensive zone, she slid the puck to Greco, who took a shot on net. Hensley saved the shot but Greco was there to pick up the rebound and score her ninth goal of the season. Â
The game would head into overtime after neither team could score in the reminder of regulation. Lindenwood's Caitlyn Post scored 1:05 into the extra frame to give the Lion's its first-ever win against Syracuse.
Overall, the Orange outshot Lindenwood, 43-36. Both teams were scoreless on the power play, with SU going 0-for-4 and Lindenwood going 0-for-3.
