SYRACUSE, NY -Â It was a memorable night at Tennity Ice Pavilion during the Syracuse ice hockey (19-14-1, 13-6-1 CHA) team's 4-1 victory against Lindenwood. Head coach Paul Flanagan captured his 300th career win while both seniors, Jacquie Greco and Holly Carrie-Mattimoe, netted a goal each on their Senior Night.
"You really couldn't have scripted it any better," Flanagan said. "It was pretty nice for those two to be able to start a game and play a big part in the victory. If anything, you look back whether its next week, next month or five years from now, hopefully they have had a really good experience here. I give the team credit for giving them a great send off."
With his monumental win, Flanagan is 300-168-38 in his career. The victory is also his 70th at SU, where he is 70-85-14 in his five years at the helm of the Orange. Flanagan is the sixth active women's ice hockey coach to reach the milestone of 300 career wins.
Sadie St. Germain scored the first goal of the night 5:58 into the first period after she picked up the rebound off of Kaillie Goodnough's initial shot.
The Lions would tie up the game at 11:19 in the second period. Caitlyn Post shot the puck twice at Billadeau, who saved both of her attempts. Kendra Broad was there to pick up the rebound of Post's second shot and made the score, 1-1.
The Orange would capitalize on a power play opportunity in the second period to take back the lead. Carrie-Mattimoe found Darkangelo in front of the net at 15:57 in the second frame. Darkangelo beat Hensley to give the Orange a 2-1 lead.
Greco scored her second goal of the weekend at 6:17 in the third period. Margot Scharfe took a shot below the blue line following a face off and Greco was there to tip the puck in. Ten of Greco's 12 career goals have come in her senior season.
It was then time for Greco's fellow senior, Carrie-Mattimoe to score. Carrie-Mattimoe's strike was a highlight reel goal that came at 15:40 in the third period and secured the Orange's 4-1 win. Akane Hosoymada cleared the puck to Darkangelo who brought it into SU's offensive zone. Darkangelo found Carrie-Mattimoe by the left circle who notched her 10th goal of the season.
Junior goaltender Kallie Billadeau had 34 saves in her 15th win of the season. The Orange outshot Lindenwood, 40-35 while holding the Lions to 0-for-3 on the power play. SU was 1-for-3 on the power play.
Next up, the Orange will travel to Mercyhurst for the semifinals of the CHA tournament. SU will find out its opponent following this weekend's first round games. Â
