The Syracuse track and field team will travel to three different last chance meets this weekend. The women's distance medley relay, Martin Hehir and Ryan Urie will travel to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame, while Amadou Gueye, Donald Pollitt and Shania Harrison will compete in the VT Final Qualifier at Virginia Tech. Eighteen Orange will compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston as well.
NCAA Qualifying Lists
On the NCAA qualifying lists, graduate student Lauren Penney's 3000m time of 9:06.32 has her at eighth in the nation. She is also at 17th in the mile (4:37.41). The women's distance medley relay team of Brianna Nerud, Rebecca Robinson, Molly Malone and Penney are currently at 28th (11:20.03).
Pollitt checks in at 19th (7.79) and Gueye at 21st (7.81) in the 60m hurdles. Hehir sits at 48th in the 3000m run (8:04.33).
Alex Wilson Invitational
The Alex Wilson Invitational takes place on Friday and Saturday at the Loftus Sports Center at Notre Dame. Nerud, Robinson, Malone and Penney will run in the distance medley relay, after the squad most recently took fifth place at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 11:20.03.
Hehir will compete in the mile and 3000m race and will be joined by Urie in the mile. Hehir came in second at the BIG EAST Championships in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:04.33. Urie ran a 4:13.26 mile at the PSU Nationals.
VT Final Qualifier
The VT Final Qualifier at Virginia Tech will be at the Rector Fieldhouse at Virginia Tech on Saturday, March 2nd. Pollitt and Gueye each recorded PR's at the BIG EAST Championships. Pollitt set the new facility record at the SPIRE Institute with his mark of 7.79, capturing the 60m hurdles title. Gueye's time of 7.81 was the fastest he recorded in his four years at SU and was good for second place. Harrison, a true freshman, raced to a silver medal finish in her first BIG EAST Championships with a time of 7.46 in the 60m dash.
ECAC/IC4A Championships
The IC4A/ECAC Championships will be held in Boston, MA at the Boston University track and tennis facility. The Championships begin on Friday, March 1st and end on Sunday, March 3rd.
Three Orange will compete in the men's mile – Andrew Nelson, Forrest Misenti and Andrew Bennison. while Misenti took seventh at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 4:11.27. Reed Kamyszek, Robert Molke and Max Straneva will race in the 3000m. Molke finished in 11th at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 8:13.91. In the 5000m race, Dan Lennon, Tito Medrano and Andrew Palmer will represent the Orange. Medrano recorded an eighth place finish at BIG EASTs with a time of 14:25.32.
For the ECAC Championships, the women's distance medley relay team will consist of Margo Malone, Beth Wright, Sabrina Cammock and Brenna Symoniak. Shaylyn Tuite will compete in the 3000m race. Tuite ran a time of 9:50.25 to a third place finish in the race at the Kane Invite. The Orange competitors for the 5000m race are Sarah Pagano, Emily Nist and Jessie Peterson. Pagano placed fifth at the conference championships after running a time of 16:30.17. Peterson's time of 17:19.11 was good for 13th place while Nist finished in 17th with a time of 17:41.86.
