Orange Getting Votes
The first CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll was released on March 20 with the Orange just out of the top 20, ranking second among "others receiving votes" crews with 36. Syracuse finished the 2012 season ranked No. 20 in the poll, its first ranking in seven years. Boston University received one vote.
Among BIG EAST competition, Notre Dame is ranked No. 14 (180 votes) and Louisville is tied for No. 18 (60 votes).
Last Time Out
The Orange opened the 2013 season two weekends ago in Clemson, S.C., posting one victory and three second-place finishes against the host Tigers, Boston University, Indiana and Purdue on March 16.
The second varsity four of Marta Ulbricht (cox), Morgan McMullen, Talia Horner and Eliza Frank recorded a two-second victory over second-place Clemson for SU's lone win.
The varsity eight finished second to Clemson by 1.6 seconds and 16.8 seconds ahead of fourth-place Boston University. SU's 2V8 and V4A also recorded second-place finishes.
Kittell Cup History
Donated by former SU rower Kristin Bidwell '90, the Kittell Cup is named after former associate director of athletics Janet Kittell for her support of the women's rowing program. The cup goes to the winner of the annual Syracuse-Boston University race.
In last season's race, on March 31, 2012 on Onondaga Lake, the Terriers (6:45.8) edged the Orange (6:47.4) in the first race of the day. SU went on to defeat Rutgers in the consolation race by 13.8 seconds, while BU fell to Cornell by 9.3 seconds. Syracuse beat the Terriers in the 2V8 by 6.7 seconds, the V4 by 7.0 seconds and the 3V8 by 12.0 seconds.
The Terriers have won the last two Kittell Cups and four of the last five. SU's last win on the Charles River was in 2007. Overall, BU has a 6-4 edge on the Orange.
