
Aziz and Rodgers Named Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Senior Jonathan Aziz (Guilderland, N.Y.) of the men's track and field team and sophomore Amanda Rodgers (Bradenton, Fla.) of the women's tennis team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 1st.
Aziz is a member of both the SU cross country and track and field teams. He runs in the distance events for the Orange. In the indoor track and field season, Aziz posted his PR in the mile (4:19.45) and 3000m race (8:42.66). Aziz is an aerospace engineering major in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. He has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester that he has been at SU and has been honored on the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Teams.Â
Rodgers has posted an 11-3 singles record so far this season. She is 7-2 while playing on court one and has won five straight matches. In doubles play, Rodgers and partner Komal Safdar have gone a perfect 10-0. The tandem has posted an 8-0 record on court two. Rodgers is majoring in communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. She was a member of the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team and has made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all three semesters so far.

Aziz and the track and field team have a variety of meets this weekend, participating in the Sam Howell, Cortland Invitational and the Florida Relays. Rodgers and the tennis team travel to St. John's on Saturday, April 6 and then to Rutgers on Sunday, April 7.Â
