SU Heads to T&F BIG EAST Championship

The Syracuse track and field team heads to the 2013 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship this weekend at Rutgers. The Orange had 41 competitors qualify for this year's championship meet in 24 different events. Check out the qualifying list here.

HurdlesÂ
Sophomore Donald Pollitt will try and repeat his indoor BIG EAST 60m Hurdles title by chasing the outdoor 110m hurdles championship. Pollitt's best time of his career came at the Penn Relays, where he took second with a time of 13:85. That mark is currently the second-best in the BIG EAST and the 24th in the country.

Amadou Gueye's personal-best time in the 110m hurdles is 14.03, which is good for fourth in the conference. Darren McCluskey also qualified for the Orange with his time of 14.38.

Sa'De Lewis will represent Syracuse in the 110m hurdles. The junior recorded her PR of 13.53 at the Big Red Invitational last weekend. The time ranks second in the BIG EAST and 42nd in the NCAA. Â

Sprints
The Orange was incredibly successful this year at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational meet. All of the sprinters qualified for their respective events at the BIG EAST Championship at Miami. Jaquan Holland qualified for the BIG EAST 100m sprint with a PR time of 10.64, which is currently the seventh-best time in the conference. Â Three women qualified for the 100m sprint, including freshman Shaina Harrison (11.70), junior Ashley Keyes (11.93) and sophomore Sabrina Cammock (11.94). Harrison's PR time of 11.70 is 10th in the BIG EAST.

Holland also qualified for the 200m sprint with his time of 21.09 which he ran in the indoor season at the IC4A Championships. The time set a new SU school record. Pollitt also qualified for the 200m sprint with his 21.30 performance at Miami.

Freshman Rebecca Robinson will represent SU in the 400m dash. Robinson's time of 53.94 ranks fifth in the BIG EAST.

Distance
Sophomore Molly Malone qualified for two events for the outdoor championships. Malone's time of 2:11.13 has her in the 800m race, while her 1500m time of 4:23.79 is second-best for SU. Lauren Penney recorded the top 1500m time this season, setting a new school record of 4:16.08. The three other Orange that qualified for the 1500m is Brianna Nerud, Margo Malone and Beth Wright.

For the men, Andrew Nelson's time of 3:49.80 is a top time for SU in the 1500m race. Ryan Urie, Andrew Bennison, Joel Hubbard, Griff Graves, Kevyn Hoyos, Forrest Misenti and Dan Lennon all qualified for the same race as well.Â

Nine Orange also qualified for the 5000m race, including Martin Hehir who has the third-fastest time in the BIG EAST at 13:53.65. Andrew Palmer, Tito Medrano, Lennon, Reed Kamyszek, Urie, Max Straneva, Robert Molke and Hoyos will race for the Orange as well.

Penney's 5000m time broke another record this outdoor season as well. Her time of 15:56.80 at the Stanford Invitational broke her own record in the 5000m race and ranks fourth in the conference. Racing along with Penney will be Sarah Pagano, Jessie Petersen, Brenna Symoniak, Meredith Speakman, Margo Malone, Alexandra Clinton and Emily Nist. Both Kimberly Spano and Clinton qualified for the 10,000m run as well. Spano's top time this season was 35:22.99 while Clinton ran the course in 35:50.20.

Five Orange have qualified for the 3000 steeplechase with all of their times in the top-10 in the BIG EAST. MJ Erb's top time of 9:11.11 is fourth in the conference while Joseph Whelan's time is seventh in the conference at 9:16.90. Â

Nerud holds the top time in the 3000m steeplechase for the women in the BIG EAST. Nerud recorded a time of 10:09.08 at the Sam Howell Invitational. Symoniak (10:31.58) and Angelica Peck (10:59.74) also qualified for the conference championships.

Jumps
Freshman Jabari Butler qualified for the high jump after hitting the 1.99m mark at the Sam Howell Invite. Both of Will Watson (7.13m) and Mikayla Pearce (5.87m) marks qualified them during the indoor season.Â
