EUGENE, Or. – Freshman Brianna Nerud, graduate student Lauren Penney and sophomore Donald Pollitt head to the campus of the University of Oregon this week to represent the Orange in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Historic Hayward Field.  Nerud will race in the 3000m steeplechase, while Penney will compete in the 5000m run. Pollitt will represent SU in the 110m hurdles.

NERUD: A FRESHMAN SUCCESS
As a true freshman, Brianna Nerud has been incredibly successful. In her rookie year, Nerud won bronze in the 3000m steeplechase at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship with a time of 10:16.29. At the NCAA East Prelims, her PR time of 10:03.18 secured her a spot in at the NCAA Championship and set a school record. She broke Katie Hursey's record of 10:08.44 which was set in 2011. During the indoor season, Nerud set the school record in the 1000m run with her time of 2:48.85.
Prior to arriving at Syracuse, Nerud capped off an already impressive high school career by breaking the national high school record in the women's steeplechase. Nerud was competing for Team USA at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain and ran a time of 10:00.72 to write her name in both the national high school and American junior record books.
Nerud will run in the second heat of the 3000m steeplechase prelims on Thursday, June 6th, at 8:35 p.m. (ET). The top five advances from each heat plus the next best two times onto the finals which take place on Saturday, June 8, at 5:57 p.m. (ET).
PENNEY REWRITES THE RECORD BOOK
Lauren Penney heads to her seventh career appearance NCAA meet to cap off a record-breaking career at Syracuse. She will compete in the 5000m, which she owns the school record for, with her time of 15:56.80 which she recorded at the Stanford Invitational. Penney qualified for the second-straight year in the 5000m NCAA Championship race when she finished fourth overall in the NCAA East Prelims with a time of 16:11.14. Â This season, Penney finished second at the BIG EAST Championship in the 5000m run with a time of 16:27.13.
In the 2012 NCAA Championship, Penney competed in the 5000m race, finishing 22nd overall and garnered USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-America Honors.
During the indoor season, Penney finished 12th at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in the 3000m run with a time of 9:24.70. She was named to the Division I Indoor USTFCCCA All-America second team. During the indoor season, Penney broke her own school records in the mile (4:37.41) and 3000m run (9:06.32). She holds the outdoor records in the 1500m (4:13.86) and the 5000m (15:56.80).
POLLITT CONTINUES STELLAR SEASON
Sophomore Donald Pollitt will make his first NCAA Championship appearance in the 110m hurdles. Pollitt qualified for the NCAA Championship by finishing sixth overall in the semifinals of the NCAA East Prelims. His time of 13.68 put him at second in his heat. Pollitt set his PR in the 110m hurdles this season at the IC4A Championship. Pollitt finished first at the meet with his persona-best of 13.64.
Pollitt qualified for the NCAA East Prelims as a freshman, advancing to the semifinals of the 110m hurdles. He finished in eighth place in heat one in his first NCAA meet. Â
Pollitt was the silver medalist this year at the BIG EAST Championship with his time of 13.64. In the indoor season, Pollitt was the BIG EAST Champion in the 60m hurdles with his time of 7.79.
