Rowan Sets U.S. Career Mark in Semis Win

OSHAWA, Ontario – Katie Rowan '09 became U.S. lacrosse's career assist leader in the squad's 21-8 victory against England in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup semifinals in Oshawa, Ontario. With two assists in the victory, Rowan now has 33 in her national team career.
With the victory, Team USA advances to the gold medal match where it will take on host country Canada on Saturday, July 20 at 3 p.m.
Rowan posted four points against England on two goals and two assists. Her second helper propelled her atop the U.S. Women's National Team career assists list with 33, passing Kelly Amonte Hiller and Danielle Gallagher (32). Rowan is competing for Team USA in the World Cup for the second time. In 2009, she was the team's second-leading scorer, amassing 35 points on 15 goals and 20 assists, helping the U.S. to the gold medal.
Team USA took a 3-0 lead just 3:09 into the game on goals by Rowan, Kelly Berger and Sarah Bullard. England stayed within striking distance and cut the American's lead to 7-5 with 8:00 remaining in the first half. The U.S. took control from there, netting five straight goals en route to an 11-5 halftime lead. England could get no closer than five goals in the second half as Team USA pulled away for the victory to advance to the gold medal game.
The U.S. will face Canada for the second time in the tournament on Saturday. Team USA defeated Canada, 13-2, in pool play on Tuesday.
