Former SU forward James Southerland has landed on the Philadelphia 76ers entry for the NBA's Orlando Pro Summer League, as announced by the team's website July 2.
Southerland enjoyed a breakout season during his final year at Syracuse, averaging career-bests with 13.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 39.8-percent from behind the arc. His 84 three-pointers on the season are the 10th most in Syracuse history. The sharp-shooter also tied the school record with nine three's in a game on his way to scoring a career-high 35 points in a win at Arkansas.
During the BIG EAST Tournament, Southerland set an event record with 17 three-pointers. He continued his strong play in the NCAA Tournament and was awarded a spot on the NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team while helping the Orange reach the Final Four.
Southerland will team up with recent Orange draftee Michael Carter-Williams, who was taken 11th overall by the 76ers in the NBA Draft on June 27, on the 76ers Summer League roster. Philadelphia is guaranteed to play five games from July 7-12, including a tilt with former Syracuse point guard Jonny Flynn and the Indiana Pacers on July 8.
