
Soccer Stars Hilliard and Anghel Tabbed As Orange Scholar-Athletes

SYRACUSE, N.Y- Redshirt sophomore Tyler Hilliard (Atlanta, Ga.), a defender on the men's soccer squad and women's soccer goalkeeper Brittany Anghel (East Meadow, N.Y.) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for Sept. 16, 2013.
Hilliard has played in one contest so far for the Orange this season, a 3-1 victory over Manhattan. Last year, Hilliard played in 12 games and made nine starts. The winner of the team's 2012 Most Improved Player Award, Hilliard was an integral part of an Orange defense that recorded 12 shutouts, tied for the third- in the nation. He was a member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team last season and is a four-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Hilliard is pursuing a degree in pre-med in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Anghel, a four-year starter in goal, has posted two shutouts and has a 1.29 goals against average this season. During her Syracuse career, she has racked up numerous honors including BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team recognition in 2012 and BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honors in 2010. Anghel's fourth win this season marked the 25th of her career, which is first all-time in program history. Entering the season, Anghel ranked third in career saves and goals against average at SU. She has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all of her semesters at Syracuse. Anghel is majoring in health and exercise science in the School of Education.
Hilliard and the men's soccer team (3-2, 0-2 ACC) take on former BIG EAST foe and nationally ranked No. 3 Connecticut at the SU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. Anghel and the women's soccer squad (4-4, 0-2 ACC) finish up their three-game road swing at Notre Dame on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. before hosting Duke in their Atlantic Coast Conference home opener.
