Men's Soccer Drops to No.25 SMU in ACC Semifinals

CARY, N.C.- The No. 6-seed Orange men's soccer team (9-7-3, 4-3-1) fell 5-1 to No. 7-seed Southern Methodist (10-4-4, 3-2-3) in the ACC Championship Semifinal Round. Junior Nathan Scott scored off a penalty kick for Syracuse in the 85th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The No. 25 team in the nation held onto the ball for most of the game. The Mustangs found themselves up on the board in the 38th minute as Mukisa Emmanuel sent the ball past Syracuse goalkeeper Tomas Hut off an assist from Jaylinn Mitchell.

Just seven minutes later to close out the first half, Ryan Clanton-Pimentel found the ball from Mitchell and Charles-Emile Brunet to go into the locker room with a 2-0 lead.

Into the final half of play, the Orange were able to get more touches on the ball, but were unable to equalize the score. Brunet started off the second half with a goal of his own from Slade Starnes and Stephan Soghomonian in the 50th minute.

Soghomonian found the ball in his possession after passes from Ryan Clanton-Pimentel and Alex Salvo in the 60th minute to make it 4-0.

Landon Hickman finished SMU's reign in the 83rd minute when he was able to net the ball off an assist from Clanton-Pimentel.

Midfielder Nathan Scott found himself in the box for a penalty kick. Scott put the ball past Mustang goalkeeper Martin Dominguez in the 85th minute.

Nathan Scott scored his first goal of the season.
Tomas Hut collected 2 saves.
The Orange were outshot 17-9 by the Mustangs. SU had 4 shots on target.
SMU had 11 corner kicks compared to Syracuse's two.

UP NEXT

The NCAA Men's Soccer Selection show is set for Monday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. If the Orange are chosen for the NCAA playoffs, then their postseason will continue with the First Round being hosted by the higher seed on Thursday, Nov. 20.
