2013-14 Women's Rowing Schedule
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse women's rowing head coach Justin Moore has announced the Orange's spring 2014 racing schedule.
Syracuse heads into its first ACC season coming off a successful 2012-13 campaign in which it claimed cup wins at the Kittell Cup and Orange Challenge Cup, finished second in the varsity eight at its final BIG EAST Championship and ranked No. 19 in the country, its highest ranking in eight years.
The season kicks off for the third year in a row in ACC country, Clemson, S.C., where the Orange will row against the host Tigers, Boston University, Indiana and Purdue on March 15.
Two weeks later, on March 29, Syracuse hosts its lone home event of the season, a scrimmage vs. Cornell at the James A. Ten Eyck Boathouse.
On the weekend of April 5-6, the Orange heads to Boston for two days of racing on the Charles River.
On Saturday, SU faces Northeastern and Penn in the Orange Challenge Cup. SU will be defending its title it won last season in the annual cup race contested between the varsity eights of the three schools. The victory in 2013 in Philadelphia was the Orange's sixth in the last 13 years.
On Sunday, Syracuse defends its second cup in as many days as it races Boston University for the Kittell Cup in a regatta that will also feature Minnesota. The Orange swept all races against the Terriers in 2013 to win back the Kittell Cup with a dominating 11.5-second win in the V8.
Syracuse heads back to Clemson, S.C. on April 19-20 for the Clemson Invitational. Embedded within the multi-school regatta will be the O'Leary Cup race, held annually between the V8s of Syracuse, Harvard-Radcliffe and Dartmouth. The Orange is coming off a second-place finish in the race it hosted last year.
On the weekend of April 26-27, the crews head to the Monticello Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. where the Orange will race against conference foes Duke and host Virginia, as well as Michigan State from the Big Ten.
Syracuse competes at its first ACC Championship on May 17-18 in Clemson, S.C.
The 2014 NCAA Rowing Championship will be held May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind.
Moore's squad begins its previously announced fall schedule on Oct. 5 at the Head of the Genesee.
