BLACKSBURG, Va. -- No. 2/2 Syracuse plays its first-ever ACC road game on Tuesday, Jan. 7 when it travels to Blacksburg, Va.to take on Virginia Tech. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. The Orange has opened the season with 14 consecutive wins, which includes a victory in its ACC opener.
The game will be televised on the ACC Network (click here for a list of stations) and ESPN3. Fans can listen to the action on the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). What to Watch For – Syracuse
1. Syracuse is one of only six undefeated teams in Division I. The other five are Arizona, Iowa State, Ohio State, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
2. The Orange has opened the season with at least 10 consecutive victories for the fifth consecutive year. SU started the 2012-13 campaign with a 10-0 record before losing to Temple at Madison Square Garden. The 2011-13 squad posted the school's best start in school history, winning its first 20 games of the season.
3. Freshman Tyler Ennis ranks among the top 10 in the nation in three categories in the latest NCAA statistics. He is second in assist/turnover ratio (5.0), ninth in total steals (38) and 10th in steals per game (2.71). As a team, Syracuse is fifth in turnover margin (6.4), ninth in steals per game (9.7) and 13th in scoring defense (59.8 ppg.).
What to Watch For – Virginia Tech
1. Virginia Tech enters Tuesday's game with an 8-5 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league play. The Hokies defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore on New Year's Eve to snap a two-game losing streak. Virginia Tech defeated Miami in overtime in its ACC opener.
2. Syracuse's zone will be tested on Tuesday against one of the best three-point shooting teams in the ACC. The Hokies lead the league in three-point field goal percentage (42.5 percent) and are second in three-point field goals made (8.69 per game).
3. Jarell Eddie is Virginia Tech's leading scorer, averaging 17.4 points per game. He leads the ACC in three-point field goals made (3.23 per game) and is second in three-point field goal percentage (47.2 percent).
THE SERIES
Syracuse owns a 4-2 lead in the series with Virginia Tech. The last meeting took place on Nov. 23, 2011, which SU won, 69-58.
