"A" boat wins open eight competition
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's rowing team opened the fall season on Saturday at the Head of the Genesee in Rochester, rowing to a first-place finish in the open eight competition.
Â
"I thought it was solid day of racing for the guys, particularly for the first race if the year," head coach Dave Reischman said. "All in all we were pretty pleased on the day."
Â
For the second consecutive season, Syracuse opened its fall season on the Genesee. SU had two crews entered in the men's open eight. The "A" boat won the race in a time of 15:07.88. Its next closest competitor, Hobart College's "A" boat, was more than 10 seconds behind the first-place boat.
Â
"I know for this particular group of guys, where we are at in our training, I thought it was a good effort and good execution on the race course," added Reischman.
Â
The Orange "B" boat finished in fourth place, covering the course in 15:35.84. The boat narrowly missed out on third place, finishing 0.32 seconds behind Williams College.
Â
The "A" boat was coxed by senior Christian Mund and consisted of sophomore Kyle McKenney (stroke), sophomore Andrew Reichard (7), junior Aleks Staprans (6), senior Cameron Bierwith (5), junior Ryan McCarry (4), sophomore Joshua Hockenberry (3), senior Patrick O'Shaughnessy-Hunter (2), and junior David Conroy (bow).
