Distance Runners Head to Iowa State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – With only two weeks to go before its ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships debut, the Orange Track and Field team will head to Ames, Iowa this weekend to compete in the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 7 and 8. The meet will take place at the Lied Recreation Center beginning on Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.

This past weekend, the Orange men and women had tremendous success at the Boston University Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. and the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y.

In Boston, four Orange set school records including Martin Hehir with a time of 4:00.04 in the men's mile, Molly Malone with a time of 2:07.11 in the women's 800-meter, Bria Goodson with a time of 24.15 in the women's 200-meter, and Rebecca Robinson with a time of 54.64 in the women's 400-meter. The team was led by Goodson's second place finish in the 200-meter, Robinson's third place finish in the 400-meter, and Reed Kamyszek's third place finish in the men's 5,000-meter with a career-best time of 14:09.79.

At the Armory Collegiate Invitational, Donald Pollitt won the men's 60-meter hurdles championship with a personal-best time of 7.75, which currently ranks eighth in the NCAA. Shaina Harrison recorded a fifth place finish in the women's 60-meter dash championship in a personal-best time of 7.41.

This will be the first time the Orange competes at the Iowa State Classic.

Teams from 16 different NCAA conferences will attend the meet, including seven teams ranked in the USTFCCCA top-25. The longest track and field meet run by Iowa State University will also feature individuals from professional club teams, including former Syracuse University track and field standout Lauren Penney of the New Jersey-New York Track Club.
