Syracuse, N.Y. – This weekend from Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 2, the Syracuse softball team will play its final tune up before its first Atlantic Coast Conference contest with five games at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.

LAST TIME OUT:
In attendance with many of softball's elite competition, the Orange posted a 2-3 record which included close setbacks to defending national champion #18/13 Oklahoma (6-2) and an extra inning loss to #13/11 Stanford (11-5). SU got off to a hot start in the three-day event with a pair of wins against Big West opponents UC Davis (7-5) and Cal Poly (3-2). Syracuse wrapped up its five-game stretch, falling to Long Beach State 7-6 in the final inning.
THREE IN A ROW FOR WAMBOLD:
Junior Julie Wambold's streak of hitting a homer in three straight games was snapped in the loss to #18/13 Oklahoma. On the opening day of play, Wambold blasted the go-ahead, two-run homer against UC Davis in the fifth and gave SU an insurance run with her solo shot in a 3-2 win against Cal Poly. Since Syracuse had the weekend before off, Wambold's streak dated back to the game against McNeese State when she hit the first of back-to-back jacks.
JOHNSON JOGS HOME:
Sophomore Riley Johnson's first hit of the season was a solo homer to make it 4-1 against #18/13 Oklahoma. Starting with that hit, Johnson is 3-for-7 with two RBIs and a walk.
CLIMBING THE CAREER RECORD LISTS:
Seniors Jasmine Watson and Shirley Daniels are each nearing career school records. With three home runs already under he belt this season, Watson now has 33 during her tenure at SU and needs just six more to break the record of 38 which is held by Alexis Switenko. Daniels, the single-season record holder in stolen bases, has 65 in her career and needs just seven more swipes to pass the record of 71, set by her older sister Lisaria.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
NEBRASKA-OMAHA: Entering the tournament with an 11-3 record, the Mavericks are currently riding a seven game win-streak. Nebraska-Omaha is led by Summit League Player of the Week Amber Lutmer and Co-Pitcher of the Week Dana Elsasser.
MISSOURI: Picked to finish sixth in the SEC, Missouri currently holds a 7-3 record and sits at #17/19 in the national polls. The Tigers handed then-No. 14 Arizona its first loss of the season 2-0, and picked up another key victory against San Diego State the following day. Missouri's three losses have come at the hands of #12/12 Baylor (twice) and No. 5/5 UCLA by a combined three runs.
AUBURN: Led by Preseason All-SEC members Morgan Estell and Emily Carosone, the Tigers have been off to a hot start and are currently 13-1-1 on the year. Auburn currently holds a 10 game win-streak and was picked to finish tenth in the SEC this season.
BRADLEY: Currently 5-9 on the year, the Braves went 3-1 last weekend at the Hilltopper Spring Fling. Bradley is led by Missouri Valley Conference Player of the week Madeline Lynch-Crumrine, who was given the award after hitting .444 as well as posting 2-0 record with a 2.93 ERA in three appearances.
FORDHAM: The Rams enter the tournament 5-8, however, have lost their last five games - all at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Picked to finish first in the Atlantic 10, Fordham is led by Elise Fortier and Michele Daubman, both of whom have been named conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Syracuse gets its first ACC schedule underway with a road trip to North Carolina for a three-game series from Saturday, March 8 to Sunday, March 9.
