SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After multiple strong performances in the first month of 2014, the SU track and field team will split the squad this weekend at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. and the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y., which has been chosen as the USTFCCCA Division I National Meet of the Week. The Valentine Invitational will take place Friday at 1:20 p.m. and Saturday at 10:20 a.m. at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center and the Armory Collegiate Invitational will take place Friday at 9:00 a.m. and Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at the Armory.

Last weekend the Orange competed at the Penn State National Invitational at University Park, Pa. Junior Martin Hehir set a school record in the men's 3,000-meter run, finishing third place with a time of 7:59.40. Hehir's performance is the first sub-eight 3,000-meter run in school history.

The Orange women were led by Haley Cutright's first place finish in the women's unseeded 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:39.99, an ACC and ECAC qualifying mark. Other top-three performances for the Orange included sophomore Dan Lennon's second place finish and junior Juris Silenieks's third place finish in the men's 5,000-meter run, senior Alexandra Clinton's third place finish in the women's 5,000-meter, senior Donald Pollitt's third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, and freshman Colin Bennie's third place finish in the men's unseeded mile run. All top-three finishers at the meet for the Orange ran IC4A/ECAC qualifying marks.

At the 2013 Armory Collegiate Invitational, senior Ashley Keyes captured fifth place in the women's 60-meter dash college race with a time of 7.69. Junior Darren McCluskey also recorded a top-five finish with a third place showing the men's 60-meter hurdles college race with a time of 8.29. The Orange did not compete at the 2013 Valentine Invitational.

The Armory Collegiate Invitational is one of the nation's largest indoor college meets, boasting over 100 participating universities and colleges at the 14th annual event. The cost of admission for spectators is $20 for adults and $10 for students. The Valentine Invitational is also one of the highest participated events for indoor college track and field, primarily attended by teams located in the northeast.
