SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse field hockey team was honored for its stellar work in the classroom by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) this week, earning its team award in addition to seven individuals receiving academic honors.
Â
In recognition of student-athlete performance in the classroom, the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award has released a list of institutions that have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year. Syracuse is one of 72 Division I teams to receive this honor.
Â
Seven members of the 2013-2014 team were named to the SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. The honor recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA through the first semester of the 2013-2014 year. Â Lauren Brooks, Megan Bupp, Adrian Chambers, Erin Dickey, Leonie Geyer, Laura Hahnefeldt and Jordan Page all received the honor.
Â
Hahnefeldt received special recognition for earning the honor for all four years of her collegiate career. It was the third such honor for Brooks and Chambers, and second for Dickey, Geyer and Page.
Â
While enjoying tremendous success in the classroom, the Orange also enjoyed success on the field in 2013 under head coach Ange Bradley. Syracuse finished the season 16-4 overall, including a 4-2 mark in its inaugural ACC season. The Orange went to its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament and was ranked No. 2 in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll.Â
