
Track Competes Coast To Coast

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –The Orange track and field team will compete in three different meets this weekend in preparation for its Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship debut in two weeks. The distance runners will compete at the Stanford Invitational and the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational while the sprinters will compete at the Florida Relays. All three meets begin Friday morning and run through Saturday.
Last weekend the team opened its outdoor season at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. Freshman Regine Hunter took home the team's only individual title with a personal-best leap of 12.71 meters in the women's triple jump. On the men's side, freshman Freddie Crittenden and senior Donald Pollitt both ran a time of 13.97 to capture second and third place, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.

The SU distance squad will have athletes entered in the 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 5,000-meter, and the 10,000-meter on the men's and women's sides at the Stanford Invitational. The 1,500-meters will feature 800-meter school record holder Molly Malone and the 5,000-meters will include indoor school record holder Sarah Pagano. Martin Hehir, indoor school record holder in the one mile and 3,000-meters, will compete in the 5,000-meters to lead the men's squad.
Last year former Orange Lauren Penney broke her own school record in the 5,000-meter run and eight runners set personal records in their events. The Stanford Invitational features top runners from around the country including entries from 114 four-year institutions. In total, about 3,300 athletes will compete over the two day event.

The distance team will also have athletes competing in the 800-meters, 1,500-meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 5,000-meters, and the 10,000-meter at the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational. Ten women are entered among four different events including seniors Alexandra Clinton, Brenna Symoniak, and Michelle Riley.

The men's and women's sprint squad will compete in a number of relays throughout the weekend including the 400-meter relay (4x100-meter), 800-meter relay (4x200-meter), and the 1,600-meter relay (4x400-meter). The Orange will also have individual members compete in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, and the triple jump. Donald Pollitt will look to lead the men's squad in the 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter relay, and 800-meter relay. Hunter will try and continue her early season success in the triple jump, 800-meter relay, and 1,600-meter relay for the women's team.
