SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Orange track and field team finishes its pre-championship schedule this weekend at the Virginia Challenge, hosted by fellow ACC member Virginia. The two-day meet begins on Friday, May 9
Last weekend Syracuse competed at three meets, racing at the Stanford Payton Jordan Invitational, the Cornell Outdoor Invitational and the Princeton Elite meet. Twelve Syracuse runners set personal records and two had first place finishes across the three meets.
Donald Pollitt (110-m hurdles) and Rebecca Robinson (400-m) finished first in their events at Princeton Elite, with Robinson setting a personal record and coming within eight-hundredths of a second of the school record. Six runners had PRs at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational and five Orange set new career-bests at Stanford.
Last year the Virginia Challenge fell on the same weekend as the ECAC/IC4A Championships, so the squad split between the two events. At the Virginia Challenge, former Orange Lauren Penney reset her own school record in the 1,500-meter run with a fourth-place finish, the highest on the team. Other top-ten performers were Joseph Whelan and MJ Erb, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Max Straneva finished fifth in the men's 5,000-meter run while Margo Malone took 10th in the women's version.
