Orange Crew Finishes 16th at IRA Regatta

Syracuse's V8 placed second in the third level final, while the 2V8 was 14th overall and the 3V8 was 11th.

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The No. 18 Syracuse men's varsity eight crew concluded its 2014 season on Sunday by finishing 16th overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey.
The Orange V8 placed fourth in the third level final, while its second varsity eight was second in its third level final to finish 14th overall and the third varsity eight was fifth in the petite final for an 11th-place finish overall.
Stanford (5:49.658) won a closely contested V8 third level final with George Washington (5:51.057) and FIT (5:51.497) finishing second and third less than a half second apart. The Orange (5:54.692) was fourth, five seconds off the winning time, beating fifth-place Penn (5:55.036) and sixth-place Oregon State (5:59.622).
The Orange's 16th-place overall finish out-performed its seeding by two positions.
Washington won the V8 grand final for the third year in a row with Brown and Cal rounding out the podium.
In the 2V8 third level final, Syracuse out-sprinted Harvard with a strong finish for second-place, beating the Crimson by .2 seconds. Dartmouth won the race in 5:48.135, just over two seconds better than the Orange's 5:50.512 and third-place Harvard's 5:50.776. Stanford (5:53.149), Drexel (5:55.122) and Gonzaga (5:59.775) rounded out places four through six.
In the 3V8 petite final, Dartmouth edged the Orange by .027 seconds for fourth-place. Cornell (5:53.343) won the race comfortably over second-place Yale (5:56.798) and third-place Navy (5:59.887). Penn (6:07.405) finished sixth behind the Big Green (6:02.202) and SU (6:02.229).
