EUGENE, Ore. – Two Syracuse student-athletes were in action on day one of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Wednesday night at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Sophomore sprinter Shaina Harrison placed seventh in her 100-meter dash heat in a time of 11.53, six hundredths of a second of her school-record time of 11.47 she set at the NCAA prelims. Junior Martin Hehir placed 21st in the 10,000-meter run final in a time of 31:17.94.
"It was the first time at the NCAA Championship for both athletes," head coach Chris Fox said. "Although their results were not the best, I believe both learned a great deal and will come back next year and do great things."
Four of the six Orange that made the NCAA Championship will be in action on Thursday. Joel Hubbard will be in the 1,500-meter run semifinals, Freddie Crittenden will race in the 110-meter hurdles semifinal, and Margo Malone and Sarah Pagano will both compete in the 10,000-meter run final.
Syracuse's Thursday Schedule
7:30 p.m. – Men 1,500 meter run semifinals (Hubbard in heat 2)
8:05 p.m. – Men 110 meter hurdles semifinals (Crittenden in heat 1)
