
5 Orange Row at U23 World Trials

Syracuse women’s rowing has five competing at USRowing U23 World Championship trials.

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The USRowing U23 World Championship Trials has an Orange look this week. Five Syracuse rowers are competing on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey for the chance to represent the United States at the U23 World Championship.
Current Orange rowers Caroline Habjan, Yasmine Hemida, Amy Ludovici and Alex Zadravec in addition to 2014 alum Rebecca Soja are all competing at the event.
Soja, competing in the single scull (1x), won her semifinal on Tuesday morning to advance to Wednesday's final. The first-team All-Region selection and All-ACC performer won in a time of 8:06.61, beating the second-place sculler in her semifinal by over 1.3 seconds.
Soja will race in the final on Wednesday at 8:34 a.m. against three other scullers.
Zadravec, a rising junior also competed in the 1x, placing fourth in her semifinal race in a time 8:29.17. Habjan and Hemida both rowed in Monday's 1x heats. Hemida placed third in the second heat in a time 8:48.03, while Habjan was third in the third heat in a time of 8:32.29.
Ludovici, a rising senior, showed strong form after missing much of the 2014 spring season with an injury, finishing second in the double sculls final on Tuesday morning. Rowing for Craftbury, the Binghamton, New York native and her partner, Katherine Miller of UCLA, finished in a time of 7:32.03, just over 10 seconds off the pace of the winning crew from GMS Rowing.
The trials winners will qualify for the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships to be held on July 22-27 in Varese, Italy.
