
NBA Summer League Comes To A Close

Five former SU basketball student-athletes were featured in this year’s Las Vegas Summer League
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On Monday, July 21, the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas came to a close with the Sacramento Kings topping the Houston Rockets, 77-68. The league expanded over the course of 11 days and included five products of the Syracuse basketball program.
The conclusion of the Las Vegas League also brings NBA summer league play to halt. Between the Orlando and Las Vegas Leagues 'Cuse had a total of seven former players competing, which stands as the fourth most of any university.
UCLA led all institutions with 10 former players, followed by Kentucky (nine) and Kansas (eight). Tying the Orange at seven was Michigan, Washington and ACC foe, NC State.
SU's highest draft pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Tyler Ennis, finished his first summer league experience with the Phoenix Suns appearing in all five games. Four of the five games Ennis played 20 minutes or more. The guard did it all for the Suns tallying 21 points, 20 rebounds, 16 assists, eight steals and was nearly perfect from the free throw line netting seven of his eight chances.
The other 2014 draft pick out of Syracuse, Jerami Grant, appeared in six games for the Philadelphia 76ers. Grant recorded 39 points, 34 rebounds and shot 81% (21-26) from the charity stripe. Three of Grant's six games he saw 20 minutes or more of action. His best game came in the 83-63 win over the Los Angeles Lakers where he scored 11 points and reigned in seven boards.
Former Orange, CJ Fair, was given a go with the Dallas Mavericks in Las Vegas. Fair recorded a game-high eight points and four rebounds in an 88-62 victory over Ennis and the Suns.
Playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, James Southerland scored 18 points over the four games he appeared in.
Brandon Triche also saw action in one game for the New York Knicks. Triche finished the game with two points, three rebounds and a block in 12 minutes of play in the Knicks' 71-69 win over Portland.
