SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women's ice hockey team hosts College Hockey America rival RIT on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
The Orange (2-3-0) lost in the CHA Championship last season to RIT (1-3-0) by a final score of 2-1 in double overtime. Wednesday's game will be the first conference contest in the 2015-16 campaign for both sides.
"We have veterans on our team that remember who ended our season last year," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "We feel we have a good rivalry with a well-coached, good team. It is good to be coming off a big win headed into Wednesday's game."
Syracuse went 1-1 over the weekend and is coming off a 4-0 win over Providence on Sunday. Senior Melissa Piacentini was recently named CHA Player of the Week after finishing the week with a goal and two assists to lead the team with three points. Redshirt senior captain Nicole Ferrara has been on fire to start the season, registering a point in the last four games.
With majority of the production coming from a veteran Syracuse squad, the players certainly have history with RIT.
The Rivalry Continues
With Syracuse losing in double overtime to RIT last year in the conference championship, the Orange and Tigers have taken seven of their 12 games into overtime. Syracuse is 7-4-1 all-time against RIT.
The Orange senior class has seen RIT over the last four years and are hungry for revenge against the Tigers after last year's CHA Championship loss.
RIT won three of four contests last season against Syracuse. The Orange is 5-0-0 at home against the Tigers.
