SYRACUSE, N.Y.- After hosting No. 5 Clarkson in the 2015-16 season opener, the Syracuse women's ice hockey team is on the road for its next five contests, starting on Friday, Oct. 9 when the Orange travels to take on No. 10 Northeastern at 2 p.m. before it next game on Saturday against New Hampshire at 2 p.m.

Syracuse (0-1-0) is coming off a tough 3-1 loss to No. 5 Clarkson in its first game of the season, battling the Golden Knights from start to finish. Despite senior Melissa Piacentini pulling the Orange within one goal in the third frame, the Golden Knights utilized two power-play goals to come out of Tennity Ice Pavilion with the win. Senior goaltender Jenn Gilligan made 34 saves in between the pipes, keeping the Orange alive for the entirety of the contest.

The Orange are on the road for nine of its next 10 contests, including five in a row starting Friday.

"First and foremost, we have to build off the Clarkson game. We saw some real good things the other night, but at the same time we have a ways to go systems wise because of how early it is in the year," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "We are excited to get out on the road and have the opportunity for our team to bond especially with the young players."

Syracuse has a tough road ahead of them, starting with a No. 10 Northeastern (1-0-1).

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
The Huskies opened their season on the road with a pair of games against St. Lawrence, tying the Saints 2-2 in the first game before winning 9-5 a day later.

The Huskies and Saints matched each other with 67 shots during their two-game series. For Northeastern, Kendall Coyne leads the team with four goals and an assist for five points. Coyne had a hat trick against St. Lawrence in the second game.

Coyne is undoubtedly the difference-maker for the Huskies. She was recently one of 13 players named to the Team USA Four Nations Cup roster that won gold for USA at the 2015 IIHF Women's World Championship.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
New Hampshire opened up the 2015-16 campaign with a 4-0 loss to Maine in WHEA play. Before playing the Orange, the Wildcats will take on another member of the CHA, Lindenwood.

Despite losing 4-0 to Maine in the first game of the season, New Hampshire outshot the Black Bears by a total of 29-1.

Last season, Jonna Curtis led the way for New Hampshire by registering 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points.
