Orange Clashes With Tigers in ACC Semifinals

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 13/-- Syracuse gets a much-anticipated rematch with No. 2/2 Clemson as it returns to the semifinal round of the ACC Men's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Opening whistle is set for 7 p.m. at Riggs Field. The teams met earlier this the season at the SU Soccer Stadium where the Orange and Tigers were scoreless heading into the final minute, but Clemson scored with 51 seconds remaining in regulation for the 1-0 victory.

Fans can watch the match live on ESPN3, and live stats will be available on ClemsonTigers.com. Tickets are available for $8 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. Students from any ACC institution will be admitted free with a valid school ID.

SCOUTING THE ORANGE (11-5-3)
Syracuse is making its second consecutive appearance in the ACC semifinals. The Orange advanced by defeating No. 5 North Carolina in penalty kicks (4-3). Freshman goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert made four saves in the second half. Redshirt junior Liam Callahan netted the go-ahead penalty kick to send Syracuse to the semifinal round. Syracuse looks to make it to the ACC Championship game for the first time since joining the conference.

Sophomore Julian Buescher continues to lead the team with 23 points (8 goals, 7 assists), recording a point in 11 of his last 15 matches. Overall, 11 different players have scored at least one goal for the Orange this season.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS (15-1-2)
Clemson, the defending ACC Tournament champion, posted a 6-1-1 mark in ACC play this season, good enough for second in the Atlantic Division. The Tigers' only loss of the season came against Notre Dame in South Bend on Sept. 12. Clemson is one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country with 43 goals in 18 matches. Six Tigers have reached the double-digit mark in points this season, including leading scorer T.J. Casner, who has 19 points (8 goals, 3 assists). Goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell has played every game but one in goal for Clemson this season. He has recorded a 0.60 goals-against-average, which ranks ninth in the nation, and an .845 save percentage.

THE SERIES
Syracuse and Clemson will meet for fourth time overall and second this season on Wednesday. The Tigers won the earlier meeting this season to cut the Orange's lead in the series to 2-1. The teams met on Oct. 17 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The squads were tied at 0-0 going into the final minute, but the Tigers scored on a breakaway to record a 1-0 victory. The Orange is 1-0 at Riggs Field after posting a 1-0 victory there in 2014.

UP NEXT…
The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to the ACC Championship game where it will take on the winner of the other semifinal between Notre Dame and Wake Forest.
